The DÉFI Inter-Alliances 2025 is a unique international competition that tests your knowledge of French and Francophone culture, geography, and history. Open exclusively to students of participating Alliances Françaises, this quiz offers the opportunity to challenge yourself on a global stage.

The ultimate prize? A week-long trip to Nice, France, where you will compete in the international final alongside the best participants from around the world.

Who Can Participate?

• Students of a participating Alliance Française enrolled in an A2-level (or higher) French class
• Must be at least 18 years old by July 2025
• AF staff and board members, as well as French native speakers are not eligible

Competition Format

The contest is structured in four rounds, each bringing you closer to the international final in France:

Step 1: Local Round – April 12, 10 AM PST (online)

Compete in a 20-question quiz against other AFSCV students. The top two winners will advance to the next stage.

Step 2: National Round – May 17, 9 AM PST (online)

Local winners will compete in a 25-question quiz against top participants from other Alliances in the U.S.

Step 3: Geographical Zone Semi-Final – May 24, 11 AM PST (online)

Winners from the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean will compete for a spot in the international final.

Step 4: International Final in Nice, France – July 21-25

The six regional winners will travel to Nice, France, to compete in person against top Alliance Française students from around the world.

How Does It Work?

For the first 3 steps online, participants must use two digital devices during the competition: one device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) to access Zoom for the virtual event, and a smartphone to answer the Kahoot quiz. 

The international final will be held in person, also using Kahoot. Finalists will answer the quiz using their smartphones, while questions will be displayed on a screen, with internet connectivity provided by the organizers.

The entire competition will be conducted exclusively in French, and all general knowledge questions will be written only in French.
