Pendant longtemps, le voyage vers les États-Unis était d’abord une aventure maritime. Et pour atteindre la Californie, les possibilités sont nombreuses. Missions d’exploration, lignes régulières, tours du monde ou escales militaires, cette conférence propose de retracer les périples qui ont conduit les Français et leurs navires jusque sur les rives de l’ouest américain.

Historien, auteur et enseignant-chercheur actuellement en postdoctorat MSCA (Université d'Angers - California State University, Sacramento); professeur assistant visiteur à l'université de Hong Kong. Spécialisé en histoire sociale, maritime et coloniale ainsi que l’histoire des relations internationales en Extrême-Orient. Président honoraire du ‘Souvenir français de Chine’ pour Hong Kong et impliqué auprès de l'EPCC French Lines & Compagnies, au Havre.

Historian, author and teacher-researcher currently working on a MSCA Postdoctorate (University of Angers - California State University, Sacramento); Visiting assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong. Specialized in social, maritime and colonial history, and history of international relations in the Far East. Honorary Chairperson of ‘the Souvenir français de Chine’ Hong Kong Chapter and committed with the Insitution French Lines & Compagnies in Le Havre.

The Arrival of the French in California Across the Oceans: French Routes to California (1786-1942) - a lecture at the Alliance Française of Silicon Valley by François Drémeaux, historian-author-researcher. For a long time, the journey to the United States was primarily a maritime adventure. And to reach California, there were numerous possibilities. Exploration missions, regular lines, world tours, or military stopovers, this lecture aims to trace the journeys that brought the French and their ships to the shores of the American West.
